disneyland in my heart

i tried to keep a good hold of it this time, but the city always manages to seduce me with its charms, and i don't know i'm missing it until i'm home alone again.

sanfrancisco is magic.

Mates of State were amazing as usual, although they were more into it last time, so though it was still wonderful to see and hear them live, it wasn't quite the magic of last time. plus, there were a lot of tense, touchy people at the first show who would get angry and offended everytime anyone bumped into them or touched them. its a concert, god forbid people touch you. the late show was an improvement. later hours bring older people, so the alcohol was flowing and everyone was very willing to have a little human contact. also, they ended the late show with a song called "These Days," which I have on vinyl. Most of the song is Kori on the organ and Jason standing up singing, and its a whole different sound than you usually hear from mates of state. it hits just right though, especially as a show closer. i recomment giving it a listen and feeling all cozy inside.

the opening acts, rogue wave and hawney troof were both surprising and impressive. Rogue Wave was good the first show, but amazing the second. although that might have been influenced by the stoned factor. Curt bought their cd though, and i've been listening to it for the past few hours, and each time i love it more. i recomend that you give it a listen. you can hear songs on their site, or ask me and i'll burn you a copy. (then you should buy it if you like, cause they're still small and deserve to be big) they've been compared to Guided By Voices, Elliot Smith, Grandaddy, Deathcab For Cutie, and even the Beatles. give it a listen, and tell me you like.

hawnay troof was awesome too, but mostly just for their entertainment value. composed of a boy and girl who dance around in tight tank tops and undies (a different set for each show), they keep things interesting as they scream and dance around the stage singing about "dix, azz, thighs," and just about anything else sex related. Their energy is wonderful though, and leaves the crowd feeling pleasantly amused and excited for the next act, rather than embarrassed. we were also invited to be their valentines' and come over to their house next saturday for vegan heart-shaped pancakes. if anyone's down, curt's got the address.

so those were the shows. we spent a little time between walking around the castro. we saw lots of lovely gay couples, and watched men check out curt and anthony. that was good fun. we looked around a shop of dildos and sex toys and a record shop, and grabbed a slice. there was alcohol for show number one and our mary jane for number two, so i saw my first shows under the influence of anything. it was good, but not something i need to do everytime. just adds a bit more adventure to the experience.

san francisco is nice. home is nice. relaxing all day is nice. and back in chico is always nice.
